Cory Carnley

Tobacconist/Travel Blogger

Gainesville, Florida, resident Cory Carnley discovered a strong interest in cigars and tobacco products shortly after turning 18, celebrating the milestone with cigars. What began as personal curiosity grew into extensive knowledge and, later, into advocacy for cigar rights at both the state and national levels.

With determination, focus, and several certifications in the hospitality field, Carnley continues to build a foundation for future opportunities.

Current Projects

Cory enjoys traveling and has documented his experiences through a travel blog focused on destinations across the United States. During these travels, he expanded his appreciation for tobacco while continuing his higher education in the field. As a cigar enthusiast, he earned tobacconist certifications to strengthen his understanding, make informed selections, and share his knowledge with others.

Background with Tobacco

After celebrating his first birthday with a cigar, Carnley devoted significant time to studying tobacco and exploring a wide variety of tobacco products and related accessories. This independent learning provided a solid understanding of tobacco, but he wanted to gain broader knowledge of the industry and consumer preferences. His research and firsthand experience include premium cigars and cigarillos, so-called "gas station" cigarillos, cigarettes, pipes, pipe tobacco, hookahs, chewing tobacco, dipping tobacco, and nasal snuff. Even with experience across many products, premium cigars remain his primary interest.

Professional Skills and Experiences

In addition to managing a regularly updated website focused on travel and personal interests, Cory Carnley of Gainesville continued his education and earned certification as a tobacconist.

Tobacconist certifications help individuals develop a deeper understanding of tobacco and cigars, especially luxury cigars, while providing practical knowledge that supports customer service and sales in premium retail and hospitality settings. Certification holders bring valuable insight into blends, storage, and selection, helping newcomers make informed choices and develop their own preferences.

As a certified tobacconist, Cory Carnley applies specialized knowledge of tobacco products and an understanding of the sales, manufacturing, and marketing processes in the tobacco industry. His recommendations also include accessories such as travel humidors, commercial-grade humidors, cutters, lighters, and other related products.

He also holds additional certifications related to service and hospitality, including bartending and responsible vending. Together, these qualifications support careers involving tobacco or premium establishments that serve alcohol while offering a quality cigar experience.

Advocacy for Tobacco and Cigars

After developing knowledge of tobacco from both consumer and professional perspectives, Carnley expanded his involvement by becoming the youngest member ever of Cigar Rights of America, the primary lobbying organization representing the premium cigar industry.

The organization works to protect individuals' rights to access high-quality, premium, hand-rolled cigars through collective advocacy. Its efforts include monitoring legislation in states where proposed laws could affect smoking establishments and tobacco retailers. The participation of more young professionals creates greater opportunities to engage legislators and the public in support of cigar smokers and the industry.

Through the organization, members connect with others who share their interests while gaining access to exclusive events and new products. Since premium cigars represent a specialized area of interest, organizations such as Cigar Rights of America help encourage appreciation and provide opportunities for discussion among enthusiasts. Cory Carnley remains committed to expanding his knowledge while supporting the premium cigar community.
